Sealing & Weather Stripping Windows

Basic Procedure For Windows:
   Double-hung windows--using spring-type weather-stripping.
For some window units, the weather-stripping can be inserted between the
sashes and window jamb without disassembling the window.

1. Open the lower sash fully and slide the weather-stripping between the jamb and sash on one side. Mark where the weather-stripping meets the window seat. Repeat for the other side.

2. Cut weather-stripping to length and tack into place between the jamb and lower sash. Close the lower sash.

3. Open the upper sash fully and follow the same procedure to weather-strip it as for the lower sash.

4. Install a piece of weather-stripping along the bottom edge of the lower sash and top edge of the upper sash to seal the units when closed. Also weather-strip the meeting rail (where the two sashes meet when closed).
